This adorable home in trendy Venice, California is heating up the house web with debate about its origins.

It is purported to be a Sears and Roebuck Co mail order kit home but there is some disagreement as to what model it is.

Curbed LA had the opinion that the home was a Silverdale model but my first thought was that it looked nothing like a Silverdale, even with modifications that may have been made over the years.

Discussion on the Sears Homes Facebook page confirmed what I suspected.

In any case, there have been a lot of updates and alterations to the 1923 home, but it is still cute as a button front and back.

The exterior colors are waaaaay wrong for a historical craftsman, but, the beachy pastels are what makes it sweet like its Venice beach neighborhood surroundings.

House preservation purists may disagree with me, but it is OKAY to love an old house just because it’s done up cute!

So the wood burning fireplace is covered in 1980’s tile….. it’s still lovely. And look at all the millwork – though I’m not entirely sure it’s original (if it is original, it has been scrubbed pretty clean).

But I’m not complaining! I do love this house.

Look how they rehabbed the kitchen:

Custom cabinets, vintage stove, and retro Sub-Zero fridge – delightful!

French doors opening to the garden. Very nice.

How about this charming children’s room?

And another ground floor bedroom with garden doors:

The impressive rooms keep coming….

How’s that for a master suite?

But, the best rooms in the whole house – in my humble expert opinion – are the 2 bathrooms.

Kept in vintage, near original 1923 condition, these are what makes this house a Sears home.

Be still my Sears-kit-home-loving heart!

Outside, the sitting porches and gardens steal the show.

It’s quite the peaceful refuge among the dense, tightly lotted Venice Beach neighborhoods. And just a few block from the beach!

The home is offered at a cool $2.5 million.

You can see the original listing here.
