A Federal style “green” home
Here’s another new home built to look old. This one is located in Canton Georgia, and it is not only modeled after a historic home, but considered to be a “green home” because of its many sustainable features.
It is built from Autoclaved Aerated Concrete which is essentially light weight hole-y concrete that has high thermal efficiency and resembles a Hershey’s Air Delight chocolate bar in texture. (sorry I don’t have a picture)
Though constructed in 1997, this home was built to resemble a Federal style estate. The walls are thick, the ceilings are high, and the porches are deep; all in an effort to control and maintian passive heating and cooling in the humid southern climate.
This home is currently listed for sale at $525,000.00.
It has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms in 4,999 square feet.
The interior is finished in a timeless, classic style with modern touches – like recessed lighting and energy efficient windows!
There are also plenty of built-ins.
The stones used in the creation of the fireplace were collected from on-site riverbeds. All the wood used in the finishing of the first floor is antique or repurposed wood.
The entire first floor is laid with thick, random width antique / repurposed woods – Ash and Walnut. The boards were planed, sanded, cut, glued, screwed, fitted and finished here on site.

In the bedrooms: more built-in bookshelves!
Though not pictured in the listing photos, this house boasts NINE walk-in closets! (Try finding that in a bona-fide old house!)
