Albuquerque, New Mexico is also known as “Albu-quirky” – for good reason. People there do their own thing and nobady really minds, as evidenced in this funky house:
When I first saw an exterior photo of this house on Realtor.com, I said to myself, Gosh that looks like another Bart Prince designed house!
Sure enough, when I found the listing description it had this to say:
GREAT NEW price!!!! Now is your chance to get a Bart Prince design. Own a piece of history. A REAL living art museum. Wide open design with two atrium’s. You have to see to believe. Truly a custom house.
This house is amazing architecturally, but aesthetically as well – it is a perfect time-capsule of the late 1970’s/early 1980’s inside.
Have a look:
One of Bart Prince’s signature design features is bringing the outdoors inside…
He’s been known to design gardens or waterways (or a combination of both) that flow organically through the entire house.
I’ve mentioned in the past that Bart Prince is probably my most admired American architect… you can check this old post about another one of his Albuquerque designed homes that was recently for sale.
A look inside the cool conical kitchen:
A peek in the bedroom…
The bathroom… SCREECH!
(Phew, sorry, just had an ’80’s flashback there for a minute!)
This house is listed for $494,900 and it has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in over 3400 square feet.
Check out this fabulous TV-stand cart-on-wheels:
And the garage(s)…
The big box garage – and the BBQ – look a a little alien in this picture.
I would live here in a heart-beat, not only because I have a crush on Bart Prince, but because I am a child product of the 1980’s!
How about you? Would you live in an unusual home like this?
