Yes, the news is TRUE my fellow House Crazies and John Denver fans – John Denver’s former home in the Starwood subdivision of Aspen, Colorado is up for sale again!
A couple years ago, I did a post on all the information I could dig up about John’s former home – including old listing photos when the house last sold in 1999. You can view that post here.
Now, because it is up for sale again, we get to view all new recent photos of John’s former home!
The aspen trees have gotten bigger but the house is looking pretty darn good.
I was delighted to find that the home has been so well kept. It seems like the current owners maintained the house much in the way it was when they bought it.
Have a look at how the interior appears today:
The listing agent is Aspen property broker Carol Dopkin, who incidentally, handled the sale of this home in 1999, two years after John’s tragic death.
The entire property is more of a compound comprised of a main house featuring 6 bedrooms, and a guest house with 5 bedrooms on 2 separately deeded lots, both with separate addresses and driveways. A quaint walking path connects the two homes and both are being sold together for the sum of $10,750,000.
Recall that the home last sold in 1999 for $3.68 million.
Recall also that John Denver himself designed this home in the early 1970’s!
From the photos of the main house, it still feels like John lives here.
One of John’s favorite spots on the property was this deck with the panoramic views:
The estate encompasses almost 8 acres of green grassy pastures and undulating mountain views.
John’s former home is located in a gated community called Starwood – the namesake for his famous song “Starwood in Aspen“.
You CANNOT access the property unless you have an appointment with the listing agent. This is to prevent all us die-hard Denver fans from flooding the place as if it were a museum. And some would argue that it should be a museum!
These listing photos are as close as most of us will ever get to John Denver’s amazing abode.
But, as I said in my last post about John’s house, there is a public place nearby where all are welcome to pay their respects to the late great singer: The John Denver Sanctuary in Aspen.
I visited the Sanctuary again last summer and the city of Aspen had expanded the park and made some major improvements. It really is a spectacular place to visit if you are ever in Aspen – and it is totally free!
