The Flintstones house in Portugal

It’s called Casa de Pedra, and this place rocks – literally. The home is built from a rock/concrete mix between two honking huge boulders in Nas montanhas de Fafe, Portugal.

Said to be inspired by the Flintstones cartoon, this house was built in 1974 as a fun-loving family’s rural retreat. It is nearly perfectly integrated into the natural environment and is cute as can be.

From a distance the only indication that it is a dwelling is the roof and the oddly placed windows and smoke stack.

Somebody in Portugal has a sense of humor.
So what does the inside look like?
I could only find a couple of blurry screen shot pictures from a European television story about the house…

The house is lighter inside than I expected but extremely cozy (i.e. barely room to do a jumping-jack).

Apparently the current owner has had all kinds of problems with trespassers and vandals so he decided to put bars on the windows and install a solid steel door.

It’s a pity that humans act like Neanderthals, even in our advanced state of evolution. *sigh*

It’s one for the ages…

The stone ages, that is.
