Have a look at this earth-bermed house built into a wooded knoll near Denison, Texas (that’s right on the border of Texas and Oklahoma).

Natalie contacted me about her family home because they have just put it up for sale. The house is very unique and they are seeking a special person/or persons to be the next owners.

I just love these types of unusual and hard-to-sell houses, so I said:

Of course I will feature it!

Natalie was lucky enough to grow up in this remarkable home – her dad actually designed and built it in 1983.

Says Natalie:

I would have guests come over and totally flip out and I would be like, “What? It’s just a house?” As I got older I learned of its uniqueness. Now it’s time for my folks to sell and move to something new.

So why is this 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home considered “the safest house in Texas”?

Well, for starters, the windows are bullet resistant and over one inch thick; there are secondary steel doors that can be barred shut from the inside…

Not to mention the fact that the house is built of steel, stone, and concrete – and is, for the most part, buried underground.

“We’ve had a tornado pass over and had no damage whatsoever done to the structures” Natalie tells me.

But just because this is a fortified “safe house”, doesn’t mean that it is stark and cave-like inside.

The house has many luxury features like an in-ground Jacuzzi, a white marble rock waterfall, a huge Roman-style shower with a steam room and even a gym.

Natalie explains,

It was designed so that if “doomsday” was to in fact occur, we could be comfortable and happy in this safe house for many months. There is a generator that has enough fuel to run 24 hours a day for 6 months if the power was to go out and there is tons of room for food storage.

Surviving doomsday in style! That’s my kind of house. None of those cramped little underground bunkers for this house snob!

In total, this home has 4,700 square feet and includes a guest house for those extra special friends and relatives who want to survive doomsday as well.

Tons of storage in this well thought-out safe house!

But even the most ardent survivalist has to venture out for some fun & sun every once in a while, and this property provides for that too:
