You might think that a lighthouse would grace the waterfront of the Connecticut River.

But it is this windmill that has been a local landmark since 1967.

This windmill house is really cool. But it is only 840 square feet (3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom) and it is priced at $1,850,000.  I’m feeling a wee bit of a discrepancy.

But, it IS Connecticut, and it IS waterfront, and the lot is a good sized 1.16 acres. Plus, as my Realtor friends say, it is a “once in a lifetime opportunity!

That it is.

So now you can own a very unique multi-level structure with great views of the river and surrounding landscape.

The house was remodeled in recent years by a local real estate developer.

It had fallen into a state of disrepair until it was rescued by Frank J. Sciame, Jr. whose work credits also include restoration of Katharine Hepburn’s residence, and work on the Guggenheim Museum in New York City.

The interior was overhauled and the wraparound exterior deck was rebuilt.

The windmill house is staged in a cute nautical/beachy theme.

Fun fact: many believe that the windmill was invented in Holland, but actually, the earliest documentation of a windmill was in China in the year 1219 A.D.!

It would be great to live here with kids and have them on different levels; handy during fights. Way too pricey of course, but someone will love to live here and be the lookout and have a well-known address.China! I thought windmills were invented in Norway.

From outside it does look odd for a house but the interior is not bad. It looks very comfortable but the stairs…phewwwwww..it will be a nightmare if you are sick. I wonder how does the kitchen look.
